Counselling and Psychotherapy in Edinburgh and West Lothian
Welcome and thank you for visiting my website. I am really interested in working with you to figure out what you need and want, and to do this in the context of a relationship which is confidential and accepting of you as you are.
I am an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as a counsellor/psychotherapist and qualified supervisor. For my training work as a COSCA Accredited trainer, I hold membership of COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland). I have offered counselling and psychotherapy in Edinburgh and West Lothian for the past 15 years.
I work with adults on a short term or long term basis, with the aim of enabling you to understand your problems for yourself and the choices you might want to make, so that you may live your life in a fuller, happier way. My hope in beginning with you is that you will find a way to accept yourself and value yourself as you come to understand yourself more, through the therapeutic work we do.
I also work with couples on a short term or longer term basis, agreed at the start. As part of this process the work is often around enabling a couple to communicate better, to understand their needs, ways of attaching, or separating and learning more about how you relate to each other. In couples work the focus can be on a particular problem or it can help to offer a space to process general difficulties within the relationship. It's really about working together to listen and understand what you both struggle with and increasing communication.
Please visit my page Counselling & Therapy for more information.
I have an interest in working with people who identify as or may identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and/or transgender. All individuals and couples are welcomed into the relationship I offer.
My core original training is person centred and as my training and experience has grown I have incorporated training in attachment theories, trauma related therapy and concepts of identity, including LGBTQ+ training. I also have many years experience working with trauma from childhood and draw on this knowledge and experience to expand on working therapeutically. My work has also been enhanced with training in working in a time limited way.
I am experienced in working with people who experienced difficulties with:
Mental health issues, including depression
Anxiety and stress/distress, including work related stress
Low self esteem and low self confidence
Couples and relationship work
Gender issues or exploration
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and/or transgender
Childhood and Adult Trauma
Relationship and attachment style issues
Abuse - sexual, physical, emotional, financial
Bereavement, grief & loss
I practice from two locations. On Mondays, during the day, I offer counselling/psychotherapy in Edinburgh, near Meadowbank, just opposite Meadowbank Stadium, and this is easily accessible by bus. There is free parking in the street and surrounding streets at Meadowbank. This accommodation is on the first floor and there are no lifts unfortunately. On Wednesdays & Fridays, I also offer counselling and psychotherapy in a private first floor room in Livingston, West Lothian. I currently do not offer evening appointments.
